Privacy Policy

There are two major areas of this website. Several pages of the website are available to any site visitor. Other pages are available only to members of the Smith College Class of 1975 who have registered through the website and been sent the necessary username and password by return email.
 

UNRESTRICTED AREA OF THE WEBSITE:

The unrestricted portion of the site includes the following: the homepage, various photo albums, News and Announcements, Favorite Links, the donation and class dues page, the list of class officers, Site Map, Site Policy, Privacy Policy, and the login pages needed to register and/or access the restricted portion of the site.

Members of the class can use the form available in News and Announcements to send information to the Class Secretary for posting in the Smith Alumnae Quarterly. One doesn't need to be a registered user of the website to use this feature. Non-registered users of the site can also submit links to websites for inclusion in Favorite Links through the form available on that page. (Only material submitted by members of the Class of 1975 will be forwarded to the Quarterly or included in Favorite Links.)

The pages in the unrestricted section may appear in Google or other Internet searches, and they are available to all visitors to the site.
 

RESTRICTED AREA OF THE WEBSITE:

The restricted portion of the website contains the following pages: a class directory, message boards, a list of "lost" classmates, a list of classmates who have passed away,  a list of and links to classmates own personal and professional websites, and possibly some photo albums. It is accessed through the Classmate Information & Message Boards link found on any web page.

Pages in this area are available only to members of the Smith College Class of 1975 who have registered through the website.  There is a registration and login in page designed for this purpose. Please keep in mind that, in addition to reserving this area of the website for class members, this registration and login process enables us to keep current contact information for classmates who participate. Once you have registered with the website, you will receive the user name and password needed to access this restricted section by email within 24 hours. It will come to you through the following email address: webadmin@smith75.org.

All pages in this section are kept private, and will not ordinarily surface in web or Internet searches. Other than links to the login and registration pages, there are no links to these pages through the unrestricted pages of the website. These pages are not, however, maintained in a formally "secure" area, nor are they encrypted.

A user must know the username and password to gain access to these pages. A user who attempts to access them using the page-specific URL address will arrive at a login screen requiring that she/he enter the correct username and password. If by chance any of these pages surfaced in an Internet search, standard attempts to log on to would again require knowledge of the username and password.

While we have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the privacy of all pages and information contained in the restricted area of the website, we make no assurance that the pages are secure against hacking. While we ask that registered classmates protect login information, it is possible that a classmate may advertently or inadvertently share the username and password with unregistered individuals who may or may not be members of the class.
 

APPROPRIATE USE OF THE USERNAME AND PASSWORD:

There is one username and one password that will be provided to members of the Class of 1975 who register through the website. This username and password will be changed from time to time as deemed prudent by the Web Administrator.

We ask that classmates respect the following parameters regarding the username and password:

1.  Please do not share the username and password with any other individual including other members of the class of 1975. Registering on the website not only enables us to reasonably control who has access to the site, but it also assists us in maintaining current contact information for a large number of classmates.

2.  If your computer may be used by another person, please do not store the username and password on your computer. Please enter them manually each time you log on to the site.
 

OTHER PERSONAL INFORMATION & PRIVACY ISSUES:

1.  Class Directory: The class directory is intended for social and class-related use only. Please do not use the directory to solicit classmates for business or political purposes. You may register through the website without being listed in the online class directory. Simply indicate your preference on the website registration form. (See Site Policy for more information.)

2.  The Message Boards: While we request your name and contact information when you submit a posting, we will not include this information on the message board(s) if you prefer to remain anonymous. If you choose anonymity, and someone contacts the Web Administrator with a question about your posting, she will forward the inquiry to you and will not release your personal information to the individual making the inquiry.

Message Board postings are intended only for those people using the message board(s). Please do not share information on the class message boards with other individuals unless it is requested or authorized by the person making the posting. (See Site Policy for more information.)

3.  Cookies: The class website places no "cookies" on and collects no information  from your computer. There are, however, links to several other websites, and we have no control over the policies and procedures governing these sites. Please see the privacy policies and site policies of these sites for more information. This includes, but is not limited to the Smith College website and Pay Pal.
