Information on this website is intended for individual communication of a personal nature among Smith College alumnae, particularly those who are members of the Class of 1975. GENERAL PURPOSE: The general purpose of this site is to share news and information of interest and related to the members of the Smith College Class of 1975. It is intended to help members of the class maintain contact and network with each other and with Smith College, if they choose to do so. In addition to disseminating information about college and class activities, the website is intended to provide class members with an opportunity to share questions, ideas, information, and resources. II. SITE CONTENTS: The site includes the following features 1) News & Announcements: This section of the site includes items of a general nature that concern the class as a whole. You may submit news for Smith Alumnae Quarterly Class Notes through this page. It also contains links to the Smith Alumnae Quarterly and to The Sophian, the Smith student newspaper. GO TO: News & Announcements. 2) Classmate Information & Message Boards: This is a restricted area of the site that contains both information pertaining to individual classmates and message boards for class members to use in posting questions, comments, and responses to questions on various topics. It is only available to members of the Smith College Class of 1975 who have registered as users of this website. (Please see more detailed description of this area below.) GO TO: Classmate Information & Message Boards sign on & registration page. 3) Classmate in the Spotlight: Hopefully every couple of months a new classmate whose story is particularly interesting, remarkable, and/or inspirational will appear on this page. Previous stories will be archived and will remain available through the website. Stories are not written or accepted without the permission and full cooperation of the classmate involved. There is an online submission form that may be used in recommending classmates for this page. Stories may be written by Jan Carhart, the web administrator, or by another member of the class. The name of the writer appears with each story. The accuracy of any story is the responsibility of the classmate being covered and of the person(s) writing the story. (See Privacy Policy for more information.) GO TO: Classmate in the Spotlight story page; Classmate in the Spotlight recommendation form. 4) Favorite Links: This section of the website enable members of the class to post links to external websites that they believe may be of interest to classmates. These links are listed by general category and include the site name, the URL address, a brief description of the site if called for, and the name of the class member who submitted the site. (See paragraph IV-4 below for more information.) GO TO: Favorite Links. NOTE: Websites must have appropriate content and must not be denigrating or derogatory. If the website administrator has any questions or reservations about your site, she will contact you directly to discuss them. The class officers reserve the right to determine the admissibility of any link, which, in their sole discretion, is considered questionable for any reason. It is possible that a link will be included, but, if determined to be inappropriate, will be removed after having been initially listed on the webpage. 5) Photo Gallery: This section of the site includes pictures of interest to members of the class. Classmates are strongly encouraged to submit pictures from class reunions, mini-reunions, and college days along with pictures of themselves, their families, and friends from the class for inclusion in this area of the website. (See paragraph IV-2 below for more information.) GO TO: Photo Gallery. 6) Class Officers: This page of the website contains all pertinent contact information for current class officers. (2005-2010) GO TO: Class Officers. 7) Dues/Donate: This page includes all pertinent information on paying class dues and on making charitable donations to Smith College. It includes a link to PayPal, so class dues can be paid online by credit card. It also includes contact information for all class gift chairs and a link to the Smith College Advancement Office. (See paragraph IV-4 below for more information.) GO TO: Dues/Donate. 8) A site map, a site policy, and a privacy policy. III. THE RESTRICTED SECTION (Item #2 above): 1) General Information: The Classmate Information & Message Boards area is available only to members of the Smith College Class of 1975 who have registered through the website. There is a registration and login in page designed for this purpose. (Please keep in mind that, in addition to reserving this area of the website for class members, this registration and login process enables us to keep current contact information for classmates who participate.) Once you have registered with the website, you will receive the user name and password needed to access this restricted section by email within 24 to 48 hours. It will come to you through the following email address: webadmin@smith75.org. While this section of the site is appropriately accessed only through a registration and login process, it is not an encrypted or highly "secure" area. Basic precautions have been taken to keep the pages found in this area from showing up in web searches or from being able to be linked to without going through the login process. You should keep in mind, however, that there is no guarantee that these basic safeguards will prevent "hacking" or other unintended or inappropriate access to this section of the site by unregistered individuals who may or may not be members of the Smith College Class of 1975. (See Privacy Policy for more information.) 2) Contents of the Restricted Section: This section of the website includes the following: · In Memoriam: information about classmates who have passed away. · Lost Classmates: a list of lost classmates together with a Lost Classmate Information Form that can be submitted directly to the class secretary and web administrator through the website. · Class Donor List: a list of classmates who have made current reunion year gifts at various donation levels. (If you wish to have your name removed from the list, please notify Jan Carhart, web administrator, at webadmin@smith75.org.) · Classmates Own Personal & Professional Websites: a list of classmates own personal and professional websites by category with links so members of the class can visit each other's websites, hopefully learning more about each other and supporting each other's work. The same criteria apply to class members' personal and professional websites as applies to websites submitted through Favorite Links. Please see note under Favorite Links section above. (Go to Favorite Links paragraph above; see also paragraph IV-4 below for more information.) · Class Directory: a current class directory listing only those class members who choose to be included. As stated on the web page, this directory is intended only to facilitate social and college or class-related contact only. It may not be used for business or political solicitation. NOTE: Registering with the website does not require inclusion in the class directory. Inclusion in the directory is entirely optional, and any class member can choose what information to include in or exclude from the directory. The registration form covers all this. · Message Boards: Members of the Smith College Class of 1975 may post messages to various message boards available through the restricted section of the website. Topics include the following: "Let's Just Chat;" Books, Movies, Plays, Concerts, Etc.; Career Changes & Employment; Family & Relationships; Issues & Advocacy; Lifelong Learning & Professional Development; Networking; Recreation, Vacations, & Travel; Religion & Spirituality; Smith College; and "Want Ads." "Let's Just Chat" is for comments and questions of a general nature that might not be suited to other message boards. "Want Ads" provides the opportunity for class members to describe goods or services they are looking for or are offering. This might include, but is certainly not limited to, tickets, airline miles, house rentals, employment opportunities, attendees at mini-reunions, and so forth. Your name and email address must be included when you submit a posting. You may, however, ask that your name and/or email address be withheld when the posting appears on the message board. If you request anonymity, neither your name nor your email address will be given to anyone who may inquire about your posting; the inquiry will simply be forwarded to you. If you choose to include your name and/or email address with Postings are limited to approximately 250 words. You may request that your posting appear on up to three (3) message boards, provided it is suited to the topic(s) involved. It will take 24 to 48 hours for your posting to appear on the message board(s) you requested. (See below for information on the handling of "inappropriate" postings.) Postings must use appropriate language and must not be denigrating or derogatory to anyone else. If the website administrator has any questions or reservations about your posting, she will contact you directly to discuss them. The class officers reserve the right to determine the admissibility of any posting, which, in their sole discretion, is considered questionable for any reason. It is possible that a posting will be added to a message board, but, if determined to be inappropriate, will be removed after having been initially posted. Message board postings reflect only the question, idea, or opinion of the individual who has submitted the posting. They do not reflect the opinions or position of any class officer or of any other member of the class. The individual making the posting is solely responsible for the accuracy and truthfulness of the content of the posting, including the content of any posting made on "Want Ads." No class officer or any class member other than the individual making the posting assumes responsibility for the accuracy of any content. OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Users of this site should be aware of the following: 1) No member of the Smith College Class of 1975 or any officer of the class accepts responsibility for the usefulness or accuracy of any website linked to this website. These external websites, including the Smith College site, are governed by their own site and privacy policies. Favorite Links and Classmates Own Personal & Professional Websites may or may not prove useful and/or interesting to you. Any information contained on these sites may or may not be suitable to what you are seeking. If you have any questions, please contact the site itself. If the site pertains to a classmate, please contact the classmate directly. 2) Pictures on this site are for your enjoyment when viewing the website. Unless otherwise stated, please do not download or make copies of pictures included on the site without permission from the classmate who owns the picture. When you login to the restricted area, you may choose whether or not to have your computer remember the username and password. If you are the only person using your computer, you may want to do this. If, however, other people use your computer, please respect the privacy of your classmates whose information and message board postings are contained in this section and not store the login information on your computer. 4) Any external websites that may be linked to this site, including but not limited to PayPal, are governed by their own site policies, privacy policies, and possibly other terms and agreements. Neither the web administrator nor any other class officer is responsible for the content and/or management of these sites.
